If you’re looking to make money blogging, then a huge part of that is making sure you’re able to get eyes on the blog in the first place. After all, for any advertisers or affiliate programs, you have to be able to show that you’re getting clicks. This means you need to get your blog out there. Money can buy you a lot of attention, but how do you make sure you’re getting the right return on investment? Spend too much and you might not see profits for quite some time. Here, we’re looking at marketing your blog without having to see those costs go sky-high.
Making content your king
Blogs are, predominantly, places that publish content on a regular basis. As the saying goes in the marketing world, content is king. As such, you should make sure that your content, such as your blog posts, is at the forefront of your marketing strategy, not just your front page or the like. Make sure you’re writing some content with an eye on catching clicks. There is a variety of ways to make good use of content marketing through a variety of platforms. However, it has to start with one thing: finding the value in your content and working to optimize it as best as possible.
Use social to spread the word
What’s better for your budget than free? Before you think about your budget, you should first make sure that you’re spending at least some time and energy on using the free marketing tools. Out of those tools, social media is one of the most important when it comes to blogs. For long-term blog followers, the sense of community and connection can be as important as the content itself. For that reason, figure out which platforms best suit your content and invest time in building your audience there. A good social media audience not only follows your content but boosts your signal through word of mouth, allowing you to reach more people with each post. Be sure not to neglect it.
Make sure people can find you
When it comes to content marketing, search engines are one of the most effective tools for helping to connect your blog with those who are most likely to read content from it. To that end, you should make sure that you’re investing at least some time in SEO (or search engine optimization.) This means indexing your content with Google (and perhaps some other search engines) to make sure that they can find your pages, then working on the pages to make them as search-friendly as possible. A strong SEO strategy can make sure that your blog is getting seen by the people who are most likely to go on to read it and perhaps even become long-term fans.
Advertise (with care)
When it comes to getting eyes on individual posts, there are few methods that will work as effectively as paying to make sure that it gets some attention. Platforms like Google ads are some of the most effective when it comes to getting a surge of new viewers to your blog. However, you can keep the cost down by keeping an eye on the cost-per-click (or CPC). There are plenty of ways to lower CPC on your ads without hampering their ability to bring in new viewers. Making sure that your copy is high quality can impact the quality score, for instance, and targeting more specific keywords (such as long-tail keywords) can make sure you’re paying less because you’re bidding against fewer competitors.
Get networking
If you’re blogging, then you should have hopefully already heard of the blogosphere. If not, it’s time to introduce yourself. Networking with other bloggers can be of huge benefit to your own website. Aside from finding opportunities to signal boost one another’s posts, you can also get involved in practices such as guest-posting which can help you directly expose your content to the audiences that other bloggers have built up. Attending networking events, both in the real world and online, can help you increase the visibility of the brand, as well. Of course, traveling to and attending events can cost money, so you need to make sure that you budget it effectively and aim for those events most likely to offer you the most visibility.
Be smart in your marketing, using a careful balance of paid and organic methods to make sure that you’re always bringing in new eyes. This is how you get the return on investment your blog needs.
