When it comes to money-making ideas and cars, car boot sales is the first thing that pops to mind. There is no denying that car boot sales can be a great way of getting rid of unwanted items while turning your car into a mobile shop. But there is a lot more you could do with your car if you’re smart about it.
#1. The old car with high maintenance/repair costs
If you’ve been in a car accident, you understand how much damage a collision can do to your vehicle. Perhaps, the repair costs are more than you can afford or more than the car is worth.
Or you’ve inherited an old vehicle from a relative, and it’s been standing on your drive ever since. It is covered in rust, and you are unsure if it can still be rescued. So, you might consider getting rid of the vehicle altogether. However, here’s a motto you need to follow. Before I scrap my car, I always check if there’s anything of value inside. The answer is yes, there is always something valuable:
- Bodywork such as undamaged wings or doors can be sold
- Quirky leather seats can find a new home elsewhere
- Engine elements, especially in old cars, can bring a lot of money
#2. The delivery driver
Evenings and weekends are for takeaway food. Platforms such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and Just Eat have been growing in popularity since the pandemic. So, they are constantly looking for drivers. You can schedule your hours as you see fit. Working a few hours shifts during the week and weekends in your car could increase your income. You can decide how long you want to work every day.
You may need to change your car insurance to get a certificate of motor insurance covering food delivery. Places like Uber Eats and Just Eat recommend insurance policies by Zego and Haven.
#3. The taxi driver
Uber drive services and similar car driver services are always in demand. With these companies, you also get to decide when and how long you want to work. But helping clients get from A to B can be an amazing way to build a secondary source of income.
If you want to focus only a few hours during the week, these are the best events to maximise the drives:
- End of concerts or shows
- Business trade shows and conventions
- Big wedding venues, you can even advertise your service ahead of the big day
- Airport arrivals, especially for passengers who arrive late at night or early in the morning when there are limited options for public transportation.
As surprising as it might seem, you can remain completely in charge with any. of these strategies. You decide when to work or which car parts you wish to sell. By becoming your own boss, you can create a second source of income that is stress-free and accessible. There is no need to juggle two jobs at the same time just to try to monetise your vehicle. On the contrary, flexibility makes the whole process easy and rewarding.
