Helping Women Build Income Streams From Home

How to Make Your Business Truly International

Depending on your business, you might have a different marketing and customer focus. Some businesses can only really function locally. If you’re providing a service like dog grooming, gardening, or building, you’re limited to your local area. After all, you have to physically access your client or their property/belongings.

But some businesses have a larger potential customer base. Online businesses are especially free with who they trade with, whether you provide a consulting service, a digital product, or a physical product that can be shipped to other locations, you have more room to grow internationally.

This article will help you take advantage of that.

An Online Presence

First things first, the most important thing for an international business is an online presence. In truth, it’s important for any business to have some kind of website or even just a social media account. People go online to look for companies and stores that they are interested in, and an online presence makes your business more noticeable to these people.

Social media offers some fantastic marketing tools and opportunities, and allows you to have direct contact with your customers. This is invaluable for market research and publicizing promotions.

A business website can serve a variety of functions, ranging from a simple landing page with information about your company and contact information to a fully fledged online store, including a blog and a robust checkout system.

Chatbots and Customer Service

Speaking of a business website, you should make it easy for people to ask questions and share concerns. A chatbot can sort through basic questions and potentially even solve people’s problems, saving their time and yours.

You should also have a customer service system that works around the clock. The simplest option is an email address. People can share a concern and you can respond when you’re awake and working, no matter the timezone. If you want to field calls, it can be helpful to outsource your customer service to an international team.

Shipping

If you’re delivering a physical product, you need to think about how to get it to people around the world. Shipping internationally is far more complicated and often more expensive than shipping domestically.

Some companies put limits on where they can ship to, mainly due to prohibitive costs. Contact delivery and courier companies to work out what will be the best international shipping service.

Generally, you can get the customer to cover most, if not all of the shipping costs. But if the expense is too high, you can lose customers.

Payment Processing

When you’re trading internationally, you need to consider the potential difficulties of payment processing. Many customers might use a different currency, and it can be complicated for them to switch and match your currency.

If you want to accept payments in foreign currencies, make sure you use a processing system that can cope with that. Ideally, you want to cut costs on both ends if you want to focus on the international market.
