While these strange frugality tips may not have you swimming in dollar bills, they certainly are some hilarious ways to spend a little less money.
So here is a list of funny ways you can in which you can benefit your bank account.

1. Get a pet rock, internet users!
It may seem like another one of our crazy ideas to save a ton of money, but if you think about it, it’s quite practical.
Dogs and cats are great and all, but these pets cost a lot of money to own. However, having a pet rock instead is the best way to save a lot of money, and it’s true! If you really take a moment and wonder, think about the money you would save on dog food, cold water for their drinks and any vet bills imaginable.
Rocks don’t require food or drink, truly making them the perfect companion (and they will even stay quiet if you take them on a walk to the local library)!

2. No need to invest in a litter box!
Somebody who is not educated on this great way of cutting down on cat costs may be confused, but we know a way your cat can take a smaller price out of your hard-earned money.
It’s quite simple, really; toilet train your cat (extra props if you can get them to use toilet paper)!
At the end of the day pets are pricey (unless you have a pet rock, of course) and sometimes a little extra effort is needed to reduce it. The 20 or 30 dollars you save could be extremely useful.
It may be an unusual way to save money on your pets, but it is a good way and the best thing about it is that proud feeling you get when you finally train it to flush.
3. Go to bed, it’s good for you and your wallet!
One of the best new ways we have discovered to save on your electricity bill is actually unbelievably obvious. One of the good helpful tips we have is to go to bed when it’s dark. Okay, let’s expand on that.
If it’s dark, you need to have your lights on, right? So, just go to sleep when it becomes dark, and you can keep all your lights off, saving money!
It’s the quickest way to lower your bills, and you’ll be feeling fresh and awake the next day.
4. If your clothes don’t smell, nobody will be able to tell!
The “sniff test“ takes such a short amount of time. Basically, you smell your clothes and if they don’t smell great, then it isn’t the right time to wear them. Especially if you’re going somewhere fancy (that would not be a good idea).
However most of the time, if it has only been worn once it will smell fine, which will save you money on your bills and time. This is a great tip for busy college students who won’t have to waste their time washing while on college campus as any less time studying won’t be helpful!

5. Who wastes money on pillow cases nowadays, you have one already!
The only thing better than saving money is having a good night’s sleep. To do this, you need a comfy pillow. But pillow cases aren’t always a cheap purchase.
That’s fine as you already have one, and let me tell you how we know this.
When you grow out of clothing, some sell it, or others give it away to siblings, friends or somebody who cannot afford it themselves. Although this is a great thing to do, make sure you save a bit. One of the most interesting ways you can not spend as much and keep on track towards great financial success is by using these old clothes as a pillow case!

Sometimes, we go to a fast food place to treat ourselves. It can be delicious and even affordable enough to keep us in a good place with our personal finances.
It may be a theft but sometimes, when we run out of condiments like ketchup, it’s a lot more affordable to refill it with plastic sauce containers from a fast food place.
If you are feeling like a rebel, you could even fill up your glass of water with soda instead of some nice, fresh water, just make sure nobody is looking!
And, when you do go for a quick burger and fries, enjoy it. It may be junk food, but with your new cheap sauce, it will taste so much better. Plus, make sure you don’t leave any food waste, or you’re saving on the sauce and losing money on the food. What’s the point of that?
7. Envelopes, best reused
Everybody loves a card, it shows that somebody cares. They make you smile when you open one on a birthday, with family, having so much fun.
However, have you ever thought about reusing the envelopes? It not only limits your spending, perhaps enabling you to add more to your savings account, but it also stops waste and is one of the best funny ways to save money!
Think for a second. Do you want plastic bags polluting our planet? No? Then you don’t want envelopes to either. Think of the turtles, think of your wallet, and reuse your envelopes.
8. Need lemonade?
Much money in our lives is spent on food and beverages from the grocery store.
These may not be essentials, like soda or lemonade. However we still buy them as a treat occasionally when we go grocery shopping, even if they aren’t on our grocery list.
Sometimes, due to the high price, you may wish you could get free meals and sodas from the store. While you can’t do that, you can get free lemonade from restaurants.
It’s very simple – just ask for a jug of water with lemon. Then, all you need to do is squeeze the fresh fruit juice from the lemon into your water! It may not have all the sugar, but it certainly adds a lemony tang into your drink.

9. If it’s a red light, switch off your engine!
Everybody knows the ridiculous price of fuel nowadays, and inflation has increased the cost by a large margin. No longer can you pay with loose change you find in your wallet.

Sometimes you wait a long time at a red light. Wasting away fuel, which is money down the drain. You’ll be having a good laugh when you realise how easy it is to save this fuel. If you’ve ever tried to grow flowers in your back garden, you know how easily they die. Either you don’t water them enough or you over water them. It’s so complex, and they all just end up dying and flopping over like dead people!
With this handy trick, you’ll never have this trouble again and never have to buy new flowers again. You need to invest in fake flowers.
They last years, and while they may cost more at first, never having to replace them certainly makes up for that. While it isn’t a lifetime supply of free flowers, it’s the closest you can get to it (maybe even ask your family members to get you some for christmas)!
13. Reuse and recycle crisp/chip packets
Do you enjoy a crunchy, flavourful and salty snack every once in a while? Then I’m sure you like chips (or crisps). They are the perfect combination of a crispy, thin potato covered in a coat of flavours only to be described as heavenly.
Now, switching the subject, I’m sure you have used wrapping paper. It’s a great way to hide your present until it is opened. Yet, it can be quite expensive, especially after you’ve already splashed the cash on a gift (even if you only buy cheap birthday gifts).
You don’t want to be taking cash out of an emergency fund, or further increasing debt on top of student loans. So, the packets of the world’s most adored snack are a brilliant alternative.
Cut them up and stick them together to create your very own DIY wrapping paper. Just hope the person you’re giving it to has a sense of humor! If you don’t have enough packets, you could always ask friends to save some up for you.
14. Old pants? Sounds like shorts to me!
Isn’t it aggravating when you spend money on a nice pair of pants, and only months after they don’t seem to fit anymore? Instead of going to thrift stores and spending even more cash on new trousers or pants, you should turn them into a new pair of shorts.
Just carefully slice around the knee area until the bottom of the trouser leg falls off.
It will make a fantastic pair of shorts and leave you smiling as you don’t have to use more money or a gift card of some sort to buy another item of clothing!
